Create Your Defensible Space Around Your House:

• Stack firewood away from home.

• Prune branches to 10' above the ground.

• Clean roof and gutters.

• Trim branches.

• Mow dry grasses and weeds.

• Remove dead limbs, leaves and other litter.

• Thin tree and bush cover.

• Dispose of slash and debris left from thinning.

• Maintain irrigated greenbelt.

• Roofs and gutters should be kept clear of debris such as pine needles and leaves.

• Install and test smoke detectors.

• Practice family fire drill and evacuation plan.

70% of homes lost in wildfires are due to untreated wood shake shingle roofs.
